As the UN International Decade for Biodiversity begins, the need to maintain and restore our natural life support system is greater than ever.
Integrated habitat design ensures that development maintains the health of the natural systems that we all depend on. CIRIA is continuing to support and help judge the competition now in its second year.
The focus of this competition is to ensure that enhancing biodiversity is integral to the design of new urban, suburban and rural built developments, working with nature to help us adapt to climate change. We hope that the IHDC will provide a forum for visionaries and innovators to design better, more sustainable habitats for all of us.
This competition is open to everyone. We hope to encourage a trans-disciplinary approach that cuts across the engineering, architecture, landscape, construction and ecological sectors.

The Integrated Habitats Design Competition is run by the charity RESET as part of its advocacy campaign, in association with the independent information organisation livingroofs.org and the ecologist and masterplanner Gary Grant. The principal sponsor for the 2011 competition is Victoria Business Improvement District (Victoria BID).
